Pirates Win Series Against Washington

The Pittsburgh Pirates took two of three against the Washington Nationals this weekend on the road. Game one the Pirates took 6-3. In game two, the Nationals returned the favor in a very close-knit 3-2 victory. Finally, in game three, another close-knit game, the Pirates prevailed.

Game One

The Nationals got the lead early in the game with one run apiece scored in both the second and third innings. The Pirates scored a run in the top of the second inning before Washington plated both run in their respective half of both innings. The majority of the game remained scoreless until it got to the eighth inning when the Pirates plated two runs and the Nationals came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the eighth. The Pirates edged the Nationals in the tenth inning with three runs.

Pirates Offense In Game One

Starling Marte had two hits in five at-bats and drove in two of the Pirates six runs on Friday. Adam Fraizer didn’t drive in a run during the game. However, in four at-bats, Frazier had two hits and scored twice. Bell delivered a solo home-run in the top of the second. Colin Moran came in to pinch hit for Kang and had the biggest at-bat of the game delivering a three-run in the tenth.

Nationals Offense In Game One

Anthony Rendon had five at-bats, two runs, two hits, and two RBIs. Pitcher Patrick Corbin also had two hits and one RBI. Rendon also homered.

Pitching Game One

Trevor Williams went 6 1/3 innings, allowed four hits on two runs both of them earned and three walks. Williams struck out three batters and allowed one home-run. Kela blew the save. On the other hand, Vazquez ended up pitching for the save. Earning his fourth save of the season. For the Nationals, Patrick Corbin pitched seven solid innings allowing four hits one run which was also earned one walk and struck out 11 batters and allowed one home-run.

Middle Game

The final score of game two was 3-2. Both the Pirates and the Nationals scored a run apiece in the fourth inning. The Pirates counteracted in the top of the sixth inning with a run and the Nationals counteracted with the final two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Pirates Offense Game Two

Colin Moran in four at-bats had one hit, one RBI and Melky Cabrera had four at-bats had three hits, one run, and one RBI. Josh Bell also had four at-bats, one run, and one hit.

Nationals Offense Game Two

Kurt Suzuki, Howie Kendrick, and Anthony Rendon had an RBI apiece for the Nationals three runs collectively.

Game Two Pitching

Chris Archer went seven strong for the Pirates allowing four hits, one run which was earned, two walks and nine strikeouts. Anibal Sanchez went seven innings allowing seven hits, two runs both were earned, one walk and two punch outs and one home-run.

Game Three

The Pirates won series. It was a tough battle in game three. The final score was 4-3. The Pirates got two runs in the top of the first. The Nationals counteracted with a run in the bottom of the first. The Pirates then got a run in the top of the third and the National counteracted again with two more runs. it remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth when Jason Martin drove in the game-winning run.

Pirates Offense Game Three

Josh Bell had three at-bats, scored twice, two hits, two RBIs and one walk and one strikeout. Colin Moran also had four at-bats where he drove in one run and collected two hits,

Nationals Offense Game Three

Adam Eaton had a nice game. In game three, Eaton stepped to the plate four times collecting two hits and scoring twice along with drawing a walk. In four at-bats, Anthony Rendon collected a hit, 1 walk, and one RBI.

What’s Next

The Pirates have a day off on Monday. Next, the Pirates will travel to Detroit for a two-game series against the Tigers beginning on Tuesday then will travel back to PNC Park to face the San Francisco Giants this weekend. Pirates are currently 8-6 and sit in third place in the NL Central.
