Diego Costa Days Are Counted At Atleti After Eight-Game Ban
Diego Costa has probably played his last match with Atletico de Madrid after receiving an eight-game ban.
Additionally, Costa received a four game ban for insults and an additional four for grabbing the official’s arm.
The 30-year-old was shown a red card by official Jesus Gil Manzano during Atletico’s 2-0 loss to Barcelona in La Liga.
Additionally, Costa reportedly used a Spanish phrase that referred to defecating on his “prostitute mother”.
Something that Costa has denied saying. For this reason, the Brazilian-Spaniard player will have the chance to appeal the decision.
Diego “Cholo” Simeone
El Cholo came to the defense of his player indicating that other players have done it but the league protects them.
“I asked the referee and he told me Costa said something to him,” Atletico manager Diego Simeone said after the game.
“Other players have said things and not been sent off but that does not justify what Costa did.”
The Argentinian strategist made all moves possible to have Costa back in the Rojiblanco jersey this season. A magical season is no longer as the Colchoneros are out of contention of all competitions.
Additionally, the veteran striker has been far from spectacular this season and the doors for him to leave will open.
Atleti
Costa will miss the remainder of the campaign for Atletico de Madrid. After struggling tremendously since his arrival in January 2018, he’s been on the scoring end 12 times of his 44 appearances.
With a chance at banking big in China, Costa will ultimately plan to leave the club this summer.
