SmackDown Recap for the March 12, 2019 Episode of SmackDown Live
The First Hour
SmackDown starts this week with the most despicable human being in the world, Shane McMahon, making his way to the ring.
Shane forces the announcer to repeat his name over and over again. After bullying the ring announcer, Shane explains his reasoning for attacking The Miz. He says he is sick of people asking for his help in advancing their career. Shane says the reason he beat up Miz is because he is the best wrestler in the world.
Shane says he was born the best wrestler in the world and will start doing things more selfishly. He says that, because he enjoyed beating Miz in Cleveland so much, he will beat him again at WrestleMania 35.
8-Man Tag Team: Aleister Black & Ricochet and The Hardy Boyz vs The Bar and Rusev & Nakamura
Final Result: The New Day rush the ring and beat up everyone to end the match in a disqualification
Backstage in a dimly lit stairwell, The Usos wonder who their WrestleMania opponents will be. They hint heavily at wanting to face The Hardy Boyz, but they say they’ll be ready for anyone.
Randy Orton comes down to the ring. Orton says he doesn’t understand how AJ Styles can say SmackDown is the house that Styles built when Randy was their since the beginning.
“In 2005, when AJ was in Florida getting a tan with Dixie Carter, I was facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania… This house was built long before AJ ever stepped foot in this ring! This is the house that Randy Orton built!” -Randy Orton
AJ Styles makes his way to the ring. AJ says he’s proud about starting his career on the indie scene. He says guys like Randy couldn’t have made it on the indie scene.
“Guys like you couldn’t have made it on the indie scene… Or with a knock off Diamond Cutter.” -AJ Styles
“You mean to tell me your indie pals never ripped anybody off (holds up the ‘Too Sweet’ hand gesture)?” -Randy Orton
AJ says all his “indie pals” are now in the WWE because they earned it, not because their daddy got them a job. AJ says Randy’s always had help in his career just to make sure he never failed.
Randy lists his many accomplishments in WWE. He says that nobody ever helped him get anything.
AJ lists off the many failed factions Orton was a part of: Legacy, Evolution, Rated RKO, The Wyatt Family. Styles says he won’t be Orton’s next victim.
Randy says AJ doesn’t have a choice in whether or not he will be his next victim.
“As long as you want to rent a room in my house… See, I’m the landlord and rent’s due, you son of a b*tch. And you can make that check out to the most destructive letters in WWE… RKO.” -Randy Orton
AJ tells Randy he can come get his “rent” at WrestleMania.
Women’s One on One: Sonya Deville vs Asuka
Final Result: Asuka submits Sonya
- Asuka submits Sonya with the Asuka Lock
The IIconics call out The Boss N’ Hug Connection.
The Second Hour
Becky Lynch arrives to take to the ring. She says she is back and ready to fight Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair. Becky reminds everyone that she originally set the match up. Despite it being her match after winning the Rumble, Becky says she fought her way back.
Charlotte interrupts Becky and congratulates her in making it to the main event. Charlotte says that it’s different being the “hot thing” for six months, vs four years like she is. She says that the WWE Universe only cheers for Becky because they feel sorry for her.
Becky says Charlotte did nothing with her time on top of the Women’s division. She says they don’t need a queen, but they need The Man.
Tag Team: Rey Mysterio and R-Truth vs Samoa Joe and Andrade
Final Result: Mysterio pins Joe
- Mysterio reverses a Uranage into a Victory Roll for the win
Tag Team: Kevin Owens and Mustafa Ali vs Daniel Bryan and Rowan
Final Result: Rowan pins Ali
- Rowan hits a Claw Slam for the win over Ali
Vince McMahon walks down to the ring after the match. Vince says he’s here to give Kofi Kingston and the fans what they want: An opportunity for the WWE Championship for Kofi.
The New Day interrupt the Chairman. Big E says they’re not in the mood to listen to Vince. He says that they’ve done everything for Vince. Xavier says, despite their loyalty to WWE, they are treated like trash.
Big E says Kofi deserves a WWE Championship match. Vince says Kofi doesn’t deserve anything.
Vince admits Kofi is an amazing athlete. He says that Kofi won’t be in the Hall of Fame alone, but only as a member of The New Day. Vince says Kofi is only a “B+ player”.
Kofi says he’s not asking for any handouts. He says that being WWE Champion is his life long dream. Kofi says he thinks he’s worthy of being champion because of his die hard dedication to the WWE.
Kofi demands to know what he needs to do to get a title opportunity. Vince says all Kofi has to do is beat Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, Ceasro, Sheamus, and Rowan in a Gauntlet Match.
The show closes out with The New Day fighting off Kofi’s gauntlet opponents.
