Tottenham visits Burnley on Saturday and could lay down a massive statement if they can beat the Clarets.
With Liverpool in a tough match-up against Manchester United and Manchester City playing the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, a climbing opportunity is there for the Lilywhites to grab.
However, it will not be easy for Mauricio Pochettino’s boys as Burnley is on a seven games unbeaten run.
Nevertheless, the last time Tottenham left any points against Burnley was in December 2010. The Spurs have won six of the last nine match-ups and avoided defeat in the other three.
Views From Both Camps and Team News
Pochettino on Harry Kane’s status:
“Harry [Kane] is an animal and wants to be ready as soon as possible.
“In the last 10 days he has been fantastic and having him back available is a fantastic boost for everyone.”
“He wants to play from the beginning. I like when the player thinks like this, that they can play every single game and always feel fit to play. But it is our responsibility to always manage them in the best way.”
Nevertheless, Pochettino will have a the final say on whether Kane plays or not at Turf Moor. However, the Spurs remain without Dele Alli and Danny Rose.
Sean Dyche on performance against Tottenham:
“We went to Old Trafford and delivered a very strong performance against a top side. We’re going to have to do that again because Tottenham are a top side.”
“Personally I think they should, and are, being considered now as possible title contenders.”
“That feeling that we’ll take on anything and anyone, I think it just grows. When you’re doing well yourself it only enhances that inner spirit, the underdog mentality. It does give you that extra little edge.”
Meanwhile, Burnley will have available Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady after nursing some injuries. However, Steven Defour remains on the sidelines for the Clarets. Former Lyliwhite Aaron Lennon remains sidelined by a knee injury suffered back in December against his former club.
Possible Lineup
Burnley starting XI: Heaton; Bardsley, Mee, Tarkowski, Taylor; Hendrick, Cork, Westwood, McNeil; Wood, Barnes.
Tottenham starting XI: Lloris; Trippier, Alderwiereld, Foyth, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Winks, Sissoko, Lucas, Eriksen; Son.
Prediction
The Clarets have been rather unlucky against the big six. Since taking three points away from Liverpool back in December 2010, they have only managed two points from an available 42.
Needless to say, Burnley have turned things around after starting the season on the wrong foot. A win over the Lilywhites could potentially set some spaces between them and 18th place Southampton who will meet Arsenal on Sunday.
However, the Spurs have won their last four league games heading into this game. Pochettino’s job continues to be on the line despite winning in Germany for Champions League.
This is a golden opportunity for the Spurs to climb up and catch City and Liverpool while they are down.
