UEFA Champions League
Spurs Rout Dortmund In North London
Tottenham Hotspur experience one of their best European nights as they crushed Dortmund at Wembley. An emphatic 3-0 win at home gives Mauricio Pochettino’s side a massive advantage heading into the 2nd leg. Son, Vertonghen, and Llorente scored the second half goals to send Wembley into mayhem.
There were two teams in Champions League action this week with massive injury concerns and both came out on top. Tottenham join PSG in the category of not needing their star player to excel in the first leg. Spurs were without both Harry Kane and Dele Alli on Wednesday night.
“The Harry Kane Team”
“The Harry Kane Team” is continuing to get it done without the man who pundits say they need to win. Not only are they still in serious contention for the Premier League title, but they are also on the verge of a Champions League quarterfinal appearance for the first time since the 2010-11 season. In that run, they got past AC Milan 1-0 on aggregate in the round of 16 before dropping out against Real Madrid with a 5-0 scoreline in the two-legged affair.
A big bonus for Spurs is that Fernando Llorente is beginning to find his form. Even when Kane comes back, the Spaniard will be a massive asset off the bench. A backup striker performing well at Tottenham is almost an oxymoron, but will be welcomed with great joy.
Stadium Issues
Tottenham will truly be regretting the fact that they are still playing at Wembley. This massive win would have been perfect for Spurs fans to witness in their new stadium. One big issue with Arsenal’s move to the Emirates was that their new home had no history. A big European night like this would have christened their new home very well.
Second Leg
Spurs are heading into the second leg knowing they have to do a lot of things wrong to not advance. However, they are facing the leaders of the Bundesliga in one of the best atmospheres in world football. The second leg with take place at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Tuesday, March 5th.
