College Football
Every year in college football, coaches get hired, fired and resigned to new contracts depending on their performance, as the head coach of the team they are leading. There is no surprise that some of the elite coaches in the sport get extended longer than others.
The Oklahoma Sooners of the Big 12 Conference have extended their head man in charge. Lincoln Riley did a absolutely phenomenal job. Riley not only did great on his past season, but overall as the head coach of the Big 12 powerhouse team Oklahoma Sooners.
Lincoln Riley Contract Extention
Head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, Lincoln Riley has had his contract officially extended another year through the 2023 season by the University of Oklahoma.
This comes as no surprise as he’s been very successful at the Big 12 powerhouse school. Riley is one of the best coaches in all college football. His contract jumped to $6 million dollars with this new extension.
The 35 year old coach has led his Sooners to Big 12 Championship appearances, and the college football playoff in both of his first two seasons as the head man in charge.
Oklahoma is 24-4 under coach Riley and both of the last two quarterbacks to play for him are Baker Mayfield; who’s now with the Cleveland Browns of the NFL. This past season quarterback Kyler Murray, who’s currently deciding between the NFL and MLB. Murray and Mayfield both won the Heisman Trophy under Riley.
This certainly isn’t the first time he’s received a significant pay raise for his success as coach. As a Oklahoma fan myself, I believe it’s well deserved for the coach as he’s done an outstanding job with this team both years.
What does this mean for Oklahoma?
The Oklahoma Sooners, will be in great hands through 2023 when coach Lincoln Riley’s new contract will expire. I believe as long as the team keeps winning and staying competitive with some of the other top teams; this could have Riley around for awhile as head coach. As the head coach of the Sooners, the success he is having is just absolutely amazing. I hope as a fan myself that he keeps it up, because he has done a better job than most expected.
