Manchester City Grind It Out

The tides may be turning in the race for the title. Manchester City are coming off a gargantuan win against Arsenal this past weekend. The defending champs have closed their gap on Liverpool to only three points. As Liverpool are dealing with draws in their last two matches, City hopes their defeat to Newcastle at the end of January was a mere blip.  The defending champs have won nine out of their last ten in all competitions. Everton have been sporadic throughout the season to say the least. As a result, they will not be an easy out for City.

The Slow Burn

City’s fast start was quite expected with first place in the league was in their sights. Sané, who did not play in the Arsenal match, was out the gates early. The young German would have launch a shot from into the box that would miss by the narrowest of margins. Sané’s countryman Ilkay Gündogan would get involved in the action with his shot crash off the crossbar. City’s constant irritation on Everton’s defense would finally come to a head. Right before the half, Laporte would find himself on the end of a David Silva free kick and head home the go ahead goal. Everton have struggled at protecting set pieces all season. The defending champs resilience would grind their way until the end. Gabriel Jesus would secure a game sealing goal right at the end to bring City back to the top of the table.

The Heart Of A Champion

Manchester City showed why they are the defending champions. It was not pretty, but it worked. Being able to adjust to your opponent while staying true to your identity is one of the characteristics that strengthens this squad. City found themselves in a very physical battle today against Everton after coming off an inspirational win against Arsenal last week. City will be looking to take this confidence into the weekend where they will run into an inconsistent Chelsea side. With Liverpool currently having a game in hand, City cannot afford to slow down their ascend to another league title.
