Breaking News: Anthony Davis officially requests trade from Pelicans
When Anthony Davis signed with Klutch Sports in September, it was a clear signal to the rest of the league. Davis is open for business.
This morning, ESPN Senior Insider Adrian Wojnarowski dropped the news everybody was waiting for. Davis has officially requested a trade.
The New Orleans Pelicans now have 10 days to decide whether to move Davis before the NBA’s February 7th trade deadline.
Now the Pelicans don’t have to trade Davis, but as of the Wojnarowski (Woj Bomb) news, Davis is a declining asset. Every single day that he remains a Pelican, that asset loses value… They could keep him until his contract runs out at the end of next season, but then they receive nothing for him. In a way, Davis’ agent Rich Paul is doing New Orleans a favor by being transparent about Davis’ intentions to decline any sort of extension.
So where does Davis go?
Anthony Davis To The Lakers Has Been The Talk For A While Now
Well, the biggest rumor for the last year or so has been the Los Angeles Lakers. In fact, Davis and LeBron James share the same agent! The Lakers also possess an enviable collection of young assets that usually get traded in these types of situations. A rebuilding team needs future superstar options in order to part with a current NBA superstar. With young assets like Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and Ivica Zubac, the Lakers are in a strong position to acquire Davis.
Other rumors include the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks, but Boston is unable to acquire Davis in a trade unless they move Kyrie Irving (due to a technicality in the CBA) and the Knicks have been a terrible team for so long. Davis has been adamant that he wants to compete for a championship immediately.
All signs point to a James-Davis powerhouse coming your way soon, but the next 10 days will clarify the position either way.
One thing is clear though. On the heel of today’s trade request news, the entire landscape of the NBA is about to change.
