Breakdown
Paul George gets the nod over Anthony Davis (Pelicans), MVP candidate Nikola Jokic (Nuggets), and fan favorite Luka Doncic (Mavs) who had over three million votes. In the old voting process, players like Doncic and Derrick Rose (Timberwolves) would have been named starters based on their fan vote totals. Now, the fan vote only counts for 50% of the final standings, and the NBA players and the press account for the other 50% of the vote.
In the East, Kemba Walker was named a starter and will represent the home team Hornets. He beat out Dwyane Wade (Heat) and Ben Simmons (76ers). The frontcourt standings ended up the same as the fan vote with the top three vote leaders named starters. This will be Lebron James first All-Star game that he will not suit up for the East.
The Reserves
The NBA will announce the pool of reserve players that the captains will choose from on Jan. 31. Last season, the All-Star draft was secret, but this year’s draft will be on live TV. This year’s All-Star draft will be February 7th on TNT.
