RAW Recap for the January 21, 2019 Episode of Monday Night RAW
Hour One
RAW opens with a tribute video package and ten bell salute for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Happy MLK Day, everyone.
Brock Lesnar, with Paul Heyman following close behind, marches to the ring. Heyman says he, much like John Cena and the fans, believes in Finn Balor. He says that Balor believes he will win because Lesnar has not been training to fight him and thinks Lesnar is not ready. Heyman says Lesnar while make Finn a martyr for making people believe he could beat him.
Mr. McMahon comes to the ring. He misquotes the Bible and says David lost to Goliath and reincarnated into Finn Balor. He calls Oklahoma City a bunch of hillbillies and they must believe in fairy tales if they think Balor will win Sunday.
Braun Strowman comes to the ring and tells Brock last week was the luckiest night of his life. He tells Lesnar he will be waiting for him if he’s still Universal Champion after Sunday.
Finn Balor comes out and says he believes he can beat Brock Lesnar. Braun tells Finn he better beat Brock. Mr. McMahon sets up a “David vs Goliath” match between Finn and Braun.
One on One Match: Finn Balor vs Braun Strowman
Result: Finn wins via DQ after Brock Lesnar interferes
- Finn uses his quickness to get the upper hand several times
- Brock Lesnar is kicked into the ring post by Finn
- Finn ducks a clothesline from Braun and jumps out of the ring onto Lesnar
- Lesnar rushes the ring and F5’s Finn to disqualify Braun
The commentary team really hammers home how easy it is to sign up for the WWE Network.
Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush come to the ring to celebrate Lashley’s Intercontinental Championship win. Rush says Lashley is better than everyone in the locker room. He says Bobby is here to celebrate his title win by literally flexing on his haters. Apollo Crews interrupts and says he wants a match. Rush says if Apollo can beat Lashley in a “pose off” he will get the match he wants. Lashley attacks Apollo while he’s posing.
Hour Two
One on One Match: Apollo Crews vs Bobby Lashley
Result: Lashley pins Apollo
- Lashley hits the Spear and pins Apollo
Seth Rollins comes to the ring after the match. Rollins says he will overcome his recent rough road by winning the Royal Rumble match. Drew McIntyre comes out and says Rollins has no chance he will win the Rumble. McIntyre promises that he will win the Rumble and main event WrestleMania.
One on One Match: Seth Rollins vs Drew McIntyre
Result: Rollins pins McIntyre
- McIntyre hits a middle rope Celtic Cross
- Rollins rolls-up McIntyre for the win
Backstage segment show The Revival asking Mr. McMahon for another title mach against Roode and Gable. They want a referee that is able to call the match fairly and see every mistake. Curt Hawkins asks Vince for an opportunity. Vince appoints Hawkins as the referee in The Revival’s match.
Dean Ambrose cuts a backstage promo. He says his 2018 was not his best year, but winning the Royal Rumble match will make up for it.
Men’s 6-Man Tag Team Match: Lucha House Party vs Jinder Mahal & The Singh Brothers
Result: Gran Metalik pins Sunil Singh
- Metalik hits a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker for the win
EC3 gives us a strip tease in a pre-taped video. Elias walks by Dana Brooke talking with EC3 backstage.
While Elias plays his guitar, he gets interrupted by Baron Corbin. Elias taunts Corbin for his choice of clothing. Corbin says he’ll fight Elias for playing his music.
One on One Match: Baron Corbin vs Elias
Result: Corbin pins Elias
- Corbin hits the End of Days for the win
Hour Three
“A Moment of Bliss” is on with Alexa Bliss. Alexa introduces each participant already announced for the Women’s Royal Rumble Match. She introduces her guest, Nia Jax. Alexa asks Nia who she would pick to face if she won the Rumble. Ember Moon comes out before Nia can answer. Moon claims she will win the Royal Rumble Match. Alicia Fox comes out to say she will win. Mickie James interrupts and says she will steal the show at WrestleMania once again after winning this Sunday. A cluster of Women Superstars come out and begin arguing over who will win. Alexa breaks up the fight and tells everyone to get lost. The crowd breaks out into a brawl. Alexa announces herself for the Royal Rumble. Lacey Evans comes out and calls the RAW women’s division a bunch of nasties and announces she will be in the Rumble as well.
Titus O’Neil enters himself in the Men’s Rumble.
Tag Team Match: Heavy Machinery vs The Ascension
Result: Tucker pins Viktor
- Heavy Machinery hits The Compactor for the pinfall
RAW Tag Team Championships Tag Team Match w/ Curt Hawkins as the Special Referee: The Revival vs Roode & Gable
Result: Gable pins Dawson
- Hawkins breaks up three pins after catching The Revival trying to cheat on several occasions
- Gable pins Dawson with a Sunset Flip
After the match, The Revival attack Hawkins. Zack Ryder comes out to make the save.
Ronda Rousey is interviewed backstage. She says she doesn’t owe Sasha anything. Ronda says she deserves everything she’s gotten in WWE so far. She says she’s always been respectful to Sasha, but she doesn’t believe in the Sasha hype.
Women’s Tag Team Match: Hug N’ Boss Connection vs Ronda Rousey & Natalya
Result: Sasha Banks submits Natalya
- Sasha cuts a promo before the match. She says Ronda doesn’t deserve anything she’s gotten in WWE. Then she says she will beat Ronda at Royal Rumble
- Sasha locks the Bank Statement on Ronda
- Ronda rolls-up Sasha but Sasha kicks out
- Screen cuts to black when Natlya attempts to Powerbomb Sasha ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
- Sasha submits Natalya with the Bank Statement
