Chelsea Signs USA International Christian Pulisic From Dortmund
Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have agreed on the transfer of Christian Pulisic for a fee of €64 million. However, the USA international will remain with Borussia on loan until the end of the season.
Chelsea’s new signing was also linked with moves to both Arsenal and Liverpool. He will join the London side in the summer.
He becomes just the third American to have dressed up for Chelsea after Matt Miazga and Roy Wegerle.
Who Is Pulisic?
Pulisic was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania. His parents are former footballers and spent time in England as child where he played with Northamptonshire side Brackley Town.
At the age of 16, Pulisic signed for Dortmund in 2015. He quickly rose through the academy ranks until finally making his senior debut a year later.
In his first half-season with Bundesliga side, he played in nine games while adding two goals. Under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel, the American added more than 60 league appearances in a two-year spam.
This season he’s been plagued with minor injuries which has kept him of the pitch. However, he has made 18 appearances, scoring three times.
The 20-year-old comes with a reputation as one of the most exciting attacking prospects in Europe. A reputation that will fit well with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri’s side.
Additionally, is a natural winger with the ability to work both feet while being agile and quick. However, he feels most comfortable playing on the left or behind a striker.
Obstacles at Chelsea
With lots of progression ahead of him, playing time will be key. If Eden Hazard does stay, as he has been rumored for a move to Real Madrid, Pulisic will likely be going against Willian and Pedro for a winger spot. However, it is possible that one of the or both leave this summer as well.
Having the option to play with Hazard as a false nine with Pulisic and Willian on the wings may very well work for Sarri and his side.
