Top 15 WWE Matches, both pay-per-view and television, of 2018

It’s nearing the end of 2018. One of the best things about a year coming to an end is discussing the very best of said year. Because the year is ending, what better way to wave goodbye to the nightmare that was 2018 and introduce 2019 than a “best of” list? 2019 wrestling better bring its A-game, this is TSJ101Sports Top 15 WWE Matches of 2018.

15: Women’s Royal Rumble – Royal Rumble 2018

Result: Asuka wins

Highlights:

  • Lita, Trish Stratus, Molly Holly, Jacqueline, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, Vickie Guerrero, Beth Phoenix, Torrie Wilson, and The Bella Twins make surprise appearances
  • Sasha Banks is the Ironwoman
  • Naomi uses a desk chair to wheel barrow walk back to the ring
  • Kairi Sane and Ember Moon debut

14: Men’s Royal Rumble – Royal Rumble 2018

Result: Shinsuke Nakamura wins

Highlights:

  • Finn Balor is the Ironman
  • Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt eliminate each other because of their feud
  • Heath Slater eliminates Sheamus in two seconds
  • Adam Cole and Andrade “Cien” Almas debut
  • Rey Mysterio and The Hurricane return
  • Kofi Kingston uses Xavier Woods and a stack of pancakes to keep his foot off the floor; He later gets back in the ring after being thrown back into the ring by Big E and Xavier Woods

13: Asuka vs Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair – TLC Match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship – TLC 2018

Result: Asuka wins the SmackDown Women’s Championship

Highlights:

  • Charlotte spears Asuka into the barricade
  • Becky legdrops Charlotte from the top of a ladder through the German announce table
  • Charlotte moonsaults to the outside onto Becky and Asuka; Later in the match she Swantons Becky through a table from the top rope
  • Asuka powerbombs Charlotte through a table
  • Asuka beats Charlotte and Becky down with a kendo stick
  • Ronda Rousey interferes and pushes over a ladder with Charlotte and Becky at the top

12: Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton – Hell in a Cell Match – Hell in a Cell 2018

Result: Randy Orton wins via pinfall

Highlights:

  • Jeff Hardy falls from the ceiling into a wooden table
  • Randy Orton uses a screwdriver in order to twist Hardy’s gauge piercings

11: Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa – Last Man Standing Match for the NXT Championship – NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV

Result: Tommaso Ciampa wins and retains his title

Highlights:

  • Ciampa piles rubble on top of Gargano in order to keep him down
  • The outside padding is stripped away
  • Gargano, to put away Ciampa, accidentally hits a running knee into a production crate. The ending result is Gargano being unable to answer the ten count

10: 7 Man Gauntlet – Monday Night RAW February 19, 2018

Result: Braun Strowman wins

Highlights:

  • Seth Rollins wrestles for over an hour; This sets a new record for singles matches on Monday Night RAW

9: Men’s Elimination Chamber – Elimination Chamber 2018

Result: Roman Reigns wins and earns a shot at the Universal Championship

Highlights:

  • Braun Strowman eliminates five men
  • It takes three spears to pin Braun Strowman

8: 6-Man Ladder Match for the NXT North American Championship – NXT TakeOver: New Orleans

Result: Adam Cole BAY BAY becomes the inaugural champion

Highlights:

  • The entire match

7: Dolph Ziggler vs Seth Rollins – WWE Intercontinental Championship – SummerSlam 2018

Result: Seth Rollins wins via pinfall to retain the Intercontinental Championship

Highlights:

  • Seth hits a reverse superplex/Falcon Arrow combo
  • Dean Ambrose makes his pay-per-view return
  • Seth is cosplaying as Thanos; His boot is colored gold just like the Infinity Gauntlet

6: Johnny Gargano vs Andrade “Cien” Almas – NXT Championship – NXT TakeOver: Philidelphia

Result: Andrade Almas wins via pinfall to retain the NXT Championship

Highlights:

  • Five-star match rating from Wrestling Observer
  • Almas hits a double knee strike to the LED ring post

5: Mustafa Ali vs Buddy Murphy – No Disqualifications – 205 Live July 3, 2018

Result: Mustafa Ali wins via pinfall

Highlights:

  • Spanish Fly off the barricade onto the announce table
  • Superplex from the top of upright ring steps
  • Ali hits a tornado DDT from the top of the ring steps

4: Pete Dunne vs Ricochet vs Adam Cole BAY BAY – North American Championship – NXT TV October 10, 2018

Result: Ricochet wins via pinfall to retain the NXT North American Championship

 

3: Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa – Unsanctioned Match – NXT TakeOver: New Orleans

Result: Gargano wins via submission

Highlights:

  • Gargano uses Ciampa’s knee brace to aid the STF
  • Gargano and Ciampa trade blows with a crutch
  • Five-star match rating from Wrestling Observer

2: Aleister Black vs Adam Cole BAY BAY – Extreme Rules – NXT TakeOver: Philidelphia

Result: Aleister Black wins via pinfall

Highlights:

  • Black hits a fireman’s carry onto two set-up steel chairs
  • Cole sends Black through a table from the top rope
  • Cole hits Black in midair with a steel chair

1: Charlotte Flair vs Becky Lynch – Last Woman Standing for the SmackDown Women’s Championship – Evolution 2018

Result: Becky Lynch wins and retains the SmackDown Women’s Champion

Highlights:

  • Becky hits a leg drop from the top of a ladder through the announce table
  • Becky powerbombs Charlotte from the top rope through a table; this results in Becky’s win
  • Charlotte locks in the Figure Four through a ladder
  • Charlotte moonsaults Becky into a table; The table doesn’t break, so Charlotte tries again with a Swanton Bomb. The table finally breaks
