Gerard Piqué Buys FC Andorra

FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué has bought FC Andorra through his Kosmos group.

In addition, the entity has a 500,000 euro debt which Piqué is willing to pay off in order to acquire the team.

Additionally, the player’s intention is to build a club with sights at scaling upwards in the Spanish league system.

Nonetheless, the move is consistent with what the players thoughts of buying a club. A few weeks ago he claimed in L’Equipe Magazine that he was exploring the possibility of acquiring a football club.

According to Diari d’Andorra, recent changes to the law has enabled the 31-year-old to complete the purchase. Previously, it was illegal for a current contracted player to purchase a football club. However, despite his business group buying the team, it is clear that the Catalan defender would have full control of the Andorran side.

Fútbol Club Andorra were founded in 1942. They currently play in the regional Primera Catalana. The Adorran side won the Copa Cataluyna in 1994. Additionally, they’ve spent the majority of their seasons in Spanish 2B, their third tier division.
