Round Of 16 Tuesday Update, Tottenham, Liverpool Are In
Tuesday saw the Champion League group stage wrap up with eight matches and and 16 team in action. So far, we knew several teams had advance in Groups A, B, C and D.
Atletico de Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Porto were all through. However, Liverpool, PSG and Tottenham would clinch a spot on Tuesday with a win or draw. For others it was a matter of positioning themselves in the best possible situation in the next round. A better pair in the standings helps getting what in theory would be a weaker second place team.
Here is the break down given the results from Tuesday:
Group A
- Borussia Dortmund – through as the group winner.
- Atletico de Madrid – through despite some stumbles against Club Brugge on Tuesday.
Group B
- Barcelona – through as the group winner.
- Tottenham – through as group runner albeit to a 1-1 draw against the Catalans.
Group C
- Paris Saint-Germain – through as the group winner despite stumbling against Liverpool.
- Liverpool – through as the runner up after defeating Napoli 1-0. Leaving the Italian side out of contention.
Groups D
- Porto – through as the group winner. The Portuguese side with a quite Iker Casillas at goal.
- Schalke 04 – through as group runner-up, an a group that really had no competition except for Porto.
Several games at state on Wednesday when several teams fight for first place and Lyon and Shakhtar Donetsk defining the second place in Group F alongside Manchester City.
