Manchester United will host Young Boys at Old Trafford in the midst of bad results in league action. However, a win against the Swiss minnows on Tuesday will progress the Red Devils to the knockout rounds. This, of course, coupled with Juventus defeating Valencia at home.
Meanwhile, the Swiss side is likely looking to have a spot at finishing in third place to continue in Europa League action. Nonetheless, they still are behind Valencia four points. A loss or draw will likely eliminate them completely from any contention.
United already beat Young Boys 3-0 on the road in September and will be expected to win comfortably at home. Nevertheless, Jose Mourinho has several doubts in defense. Additionally, his side has been unable to pick up a win in the last two matches, with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday and previously losing the Manchester Derby by 3-0 margin at Etihad Stadium.
Team News
United will be without Victor Lindelof with a groin injury. Additionally, Marcos Rojo was deemed ready but picked up a small injury, leaving Mourinho will three fit center-backs against Young Boys.
Mourinho will have Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Eric Bailey as the only available backs.
The Swiss side are coming off a 1-0 victory over Lugano. The score has put them 16 points ahead and in first place in the Swiss Super League. However, they will be without Guillaume Horaru due to an ankle injury. Jordan Lotomba and Gregory Wuthrich will also be out due to injuries while Sekou Sanogo will not see action due to suspension.
Potential Lineup
Manchester United IX: De Gea; Shaw, Baily, Smalling, Young; Pogba, Matic, Fellaini; Martial, Lukaku, Lingard.
Young Boys IX: Von Ballmoos; Mbabu, Lauper, Von Bergen, Benito; Fassnacht, Sow, Aebischer, Sulejmani; Nsame, Assale.
Prediction
The Red Devils sit second after four games and have a chance to ensure a spot in the knockout stage draw with a win. However, a defeat or draw against the Swiss outfit at home may put the Devils against the walls and jeopardizes their chances at advancing. Mourinho’s side are heavy favorites against the Swiss despite the injuries. The Champions has been particular good for United who look to salvage a season.
