Arsenal Continue Unbeaten Run
Arsenal once again rely on the second half to continue unbeaten run. Unai Emery’s men took down Bournemouth 2-1 in a hard fought match at The Vitality Stadium. The Gunners are one of two clubs in the Premier League that have not gone into halftime with a lead, sharing the disappointing statistic with 19th place Cardiff City.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winning goal in the 67th minute off an assist from Sead Kolasinac. Aubameyang had a few good opportunities that he missed earlier on in the game, but could not squander this chance as Arsenal’s left-wing back sent in a perfect ground cross right into the six yard box for the poacher to tap in.
Arsenal are now on the best unbeaten run of any club in Europe’s top five leagues with 17 matches unbeaten (13W-4D).
Did They Deserve It?
Unai Emery knew that Arsenal had tough opposition in Bournemouth and opted to play three at the back to tighten things up. Had he not done this, Bournemouth likely come away with at least a share of the points. The Cherries looked lively early on as Arsenal tried to find a way into the game. Bournemouth even took the lead through David Brooks before the offside flag was wrongly raised. VAR anyone?
The Rise of the Cherries
Regardless of the result, Bournemouth have been unbelievably transformed by Eddie Howe. We are approaching the 10 year anniversary of Howe’s appointment at the club and they have climbed way up the English Football League. When he took over, they were 91st of the 92 clubs in the football league (Divisions 1-4). Ten years later and they are eighth, just one point behind Manchester United. He is writing the history of this football club.
Up Next
Bournemouth look likely to lose their fourth in a row as they host Manchester City next. Arsenal take a midweek trip to the Ukraine to face FC Vorskla in the Europa League before hosting the North London Derby next weekend.
