College Basketball
College Hoops Schedule: Thursday, Nov. 15th, 2018
Ranked Game(s)
‘Ranked Games’ feature schools that find themselves within the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 Rankings, regardless of who their opponent is.
Ball State Cardinals (1-1) vs. #16 Virginia Tech Hokies (1-0)
Time: 11:30 a.m. (est)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina, USA @ the TD Arena
Network: ESPN2
Game Note: This game is part of the Charleston Classic, meaning odd tip times that are away from home. These two teams will have to overcome the early start time along with any travel endured. Virginia Tech should win this game, but Ball State is a top team in the MAC which has already seen a Top-25 upset this season.
#23 Purdue Boilermakers (2-0) vs. Appalachian State Mountaineers (1-1)
Time: 5 p.m. (est)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina, USA @ the TD Arena
Network: ESPN2
Fresno State Bulldogs (1-0) @ #21 Texas Christian Horned Frogs (2-0)
Time: 9 p.m. (est)
Location: Fort Worth, Texas, USA @ the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena
Game Note: This is a very telling game for both programs, as TCU has not impressed in their first two games. They barely survived California State Bakersfield before letting Oral Roberts hang around for most of their second game. This game could very well set the table for Fresno State’s team moving forward.
#13 Oregon Ducks (2-0) vs. Iowa Hawkeyes (2-0)
Time: 9:15 p.m. (est)
Location: New York, New York, USA @ the Madison Square Garden
Network: ESPN2
Game Note: The Ducks have looked like the best Pac-12 team in the short amount of games played, as they now travel across the country. They should beat Iowa, who has low expectations this season. However, a cross-country flight in a historic arena can throw even the best players off their game. This will be a good early season test game for how well Oregon can handle the big lights and weary travel.
Texas A&M Aggies (1-1) @ #3 Gonzaga Bulldogs (2-0)
Time: 11:30 p.m. (est)
Location: Spokane, Washington, USA @ the McCarthey Athletic Center
Network: ESPN2
Non-ranked DI Games
‘Non-ranked DI Games’ feature schools that are outside of the AP Top 25, but both teams are DI schools.
St. Joseph’s Hawks (2-0) vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (1-0)
Time: 11:30 a.m. (est)
Location: Conway, South Carolina, USA @ The HTC Center
Network: ESPNU
Game Note: This is another early season tournament that features an odd tip time for traveling teams. The Hawks have large expectations within the A-10 this season, so a win here would give them solid momentum moving forward. The Demon Deacons have low expectations this season, although they are talented enough to compete with decent mid-major schools.
Central Florida Golden Knights (1-1) vs. California State Fullerton Titans (1-1)
Time: 1:30 p.m. (est)
Location: Conway, South Carolina, USA @ The HTC Center
Network: ESPN3
Game Note: UCF looks to get back on track after an embarrassing home loss to inter-state rival Florida Atlantic. UCF has a great defense, but their offense is very inconsistent. Cal State Fullerton nearly knocked off Arizona State, showing they can hang with and potentially beat teams such as UCF. This game is also on a neutral site, so an upset is definitely possible despite UCF having the travel advantage.
Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0) vs. Northeastern Huskies (1-1)
Time: 2 p.m. (est)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina, USA @ the TD Arena
Network: ESPNU
Valparaiso Crusaders (1-0) vs. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (1-1)
Time: 5 p.m. (est)
Location: Conway, South Carolina, USA @ The HTC Center
Network: ESPNU
Game Note: Western Kentucky looks to get above .500 with a win over undefeated Valparaiso. This will be a true test for the Crusaders, as Western Kentucky showed flashes of their potential against Washington earlier this season.
California State Bakersfield Roadrunners (1-1) vs. Central Michigan Chippewas (2-0)
Time: 6 p.m. (est)
Location: Bimini, Bahamas @ the Gateway Christian Academy
North Carolina Central Eagles (0-2) @ Bowling Green Falcons (1-2)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Bowling Green, Ohio, USA @ the Stroh Center
Network: ESPN3
Delaware Blue Hens (2-1) @ Cornell Big Red (2-1)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Ithaca, New York, USA @ the Newman Arena
Network: ESPN+
Game Note: Since dropping a close game to Maryland, Delaware has rattled off two wins in a row. Consider the Blue Hens a dark horse in the CAA, but to call them the outright favorite is a bit premature. Delaware impresses each game, so the consistency is there for now.
Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (2-0) @ Troy Trojans (1-2)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Troy, Alabama, USA @ the Trojan Arena
Network: ESPN+
Game Note: Despite a 1-2 start, Troy is expected to make noise in the Sun Belt this season. Southern Miss will look to extend to a 3-0 start, as this will be a good road test for the Golden Eagles. If Southern Miss wins this road game, they may be more competitive within the Conference-USA than originally thought of.
Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0) @ Creighton Bluejays (2-0)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska, USA @ the CHI Health Center
Network: FS1
Game Note: The Buckeyes seem to be overlooked once again this season, but Ohio State will have the chance to prove that in this game. Creighton is down on talent this season, so Ohio State should win this game and see themselves ranked next week if they stay unbeaten.
Central Arkansas Bears (2-1) @ Pittsburgh Panthers (3-0)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA @ the Petersen Events Center
Network: ACC Network
Monmouth Hawks (0-3) vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (0-1)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Conway, South Carolina, USA @ The HTC Center
Network: ESPNU
Game Note: Despite a home loss to Buffalo, West Virginia is a very good team. They will find themselves within the Top-25 sooner before later, as they should get back on track with a win here. The Big XII does seem down this season, and as one of the better Big XII teams, West Virginia should be fine despite the early season setback.
Davidson Wildcats (2-0) vs. Wichita State Shockers (1-1)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina, USA @ the TD Arena
Network: ESPN3
Game Note: Wichita State bounced back nicely after a horrible home-opening loss to Louisiana Tech. Davidson essentially finds themselves in a home game, with almost no travel from Cornelius, North Carolina.
Hartford Hawks (0-3) @ Quinnipiac Bobcats (0-1)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Hamden, Connecticut, USA @ the People’s United Center
Network: ESPN+
Belmont Bruins (2-0) @ Lipscomb Bisons (2-0)
Time: 7:30 p.m. (est)
Location: Nashville, Tennessee, USA @ the Allen Arena
Network: ESPN+
Game Note: This might be the best mid-major matchup of the night. Both Belmont and Lipscomb have gotten off to very impressive starts, favored to win their respective conferences. These are two teams with a lot of experience and goals of reaching March Madness this season.
William & Mary Tribe (1-1) @ Illinois-Chicago Flames (0-3)
Time: 7:30 p.m. (est)
Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA @ the UIC Pavilion
Network: ESPN3
Mississippi Valley State Devils (0-3) @ Utah Utes (1-1)
Time: 8 p.m. (est)
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, USA @ the Jon M. Huntsman Center
Network: Pac-12 Network
Weber State Wildcats (1-1) vs. San Jose State Spartans (1-1)
Time: 8:30 p.m. (est)
Location: Bimini, Bahamas @ the Gateway Christian Academy
Abilene Christian Wildcats (2-0) @ Denver Pioneers (1-1)
Time: 9 p.m. (est)
Location: Denver, Colorado, USA @ the Magness Arena
Pacific Tigers (2-1) @ Idaho State Bengals (1-1)
Time: 9 p.m. (est)
Location: Pocatello, Idaho, USA @ the Reed Gym
Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (1-3) @ Brigham Young Cougars (2-1)
Time: 9 p.m. (est)
Location: Provo, Utah, USA @ the Marriott Center
Penn State Nittany Lions (2-0) @ DePaul Blue Demons (2-0)
Time: 9 p.m. (est)
Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA @ the Wintrust Arena
Network: FS1
California-Irvine Anteaters (3-0) @ Santa Clara Broncos (0-1)
Time: 10 p.m. (est)
Location: Santa Clara, California, USA @ the Leavey Center
Game Note: This game should see a very legit UC-Irvine team go 4-0. As long as the Anteaters don’t lose focus, they should be alright for most the season. They already passed their first early season test in beating Texas A&M on the road, as this team has the potential to go very far this season. Their length is their strength.
Detroit Mercy Titans (0-3) @ California Golden Bears (1-1)
Time: 10 p.m. (est)
Location: Berkeley, California, USA @ the Haas Pavilion
Network: Pac-12 Network
Non-DI Opponent Games
Finally, the ‘Non-DI Opponent Games’ feature non-ranked DI schools who are matched up against a school in DII or lower.
Boyce Bulldogs @ Presbyterian Blue Hose (2-1)
Time: 1 p.m. (est)
Location: Clinton, South Carolina, USA @ the Ross E. Templeton P.E. Center
Network: ESPN+
Milligan Buffaloes @ Elon Phoenix (1-1)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Elon, North Carolina, USA @ the Schar Center
North Greenville Crusaders @ Furman Paladins (3-0)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Greenville, South Carolina, USA @ the Timmons Arena
Network: ESPN3
Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers @ Evansville Purple Aces (0-2)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Evansville, Indiana, USA @ the Ford Center
Network: ESPN+
Johnson-Florida Suns @ Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (1-2)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Dayton Beach, Florida, USA @ the Moore Gymnasium
Carver Bible Cougars @ Tennessee State Tigers (0-2)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Nashville, Tennessee, USA @ the Gentry Center
Network: ESPN+
Lincoln-Pennsylvania Lions @ Morgan State Bears (0-3)
Time: 7 p.m. (est)
Location: Baltimore, Maryland, USA @ the Hill Field House
San Diego Christian Hawks @ San Diego Toreros (2-1)
