The Jazz Spoil Gordon Hayward’s Return, Win 123-115

The Boston Celtics took on the Utah Jazz in the second night of a back-to-back. For the most part, the Celtics kept the game competitiv, but Joe Ingles’ 27-points shut them down. Kyrie Irving did not play in last nights game (personal reasons) which hurt the Celtics in crunch time. Without Irving, nobody was able to create in those crucial moments.

The easiest reason why the Celtics lost was the defensive end of the floor. As a result, the Jazz were comfortable on the offensive end of the floor. Whether it was in the paint or from three, the Jazz had no problem cashing in. However, there are still plenty of promising moments in the game. The offense was rolling, and Terry Rozier led it all in his first start of the season. His 22-points will definitely up his trade value.

The Age of Al Horford is Showing

Horford is now 32-years old. An NBA veteran in the paint, and with his slimmer frame it was expected that he would be able to fight off father time. That has not been the case 12 games into the season. Last night against the Jazz amplified all of his deficiencies. Utah was getting whatever they wanted on him. They also were slashing and dashing to the rim, and it was easy for them to get past him.

Knowing that he is owed about 60 million over the next 2 seasons makes his contract untradeable. Although his value goes past his play on the court, his leadership isn’t worth a max contract. Unless Anthony Davis request a trade himself, it could be hard to unload Horford in that trade. The Celtics need to trust that this is just early season rust and his defense will come around.

Player of the Game: Terry Rozier

Rozier had a solid 22-points and handled the offense well in his start. He also showed that he is a starter in this league, and a valuable trade chip. I would love to see the Celtics test his value in the trade market because it would be a shame to lose him for nothing.

Honorable Mention: Jayson Tatum

A Look Forward to the Next Game

The Celtics continue their west coast road trip with a matchup against Portland. The Trailblazers are 9-3 this season, and are shooting lights out. The Celtics need to pull it together in order to beat this team or risk falling to 7-6.
