Who Should Be Duke’s Number One Scoring Option?
The Options
This coming season, Duke has a plethora of options on the offensive side of the ball. If we are talking number one scoring option, there are really only three choices. The three most likely options are RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson, and Cam Reddish.
RJ Barrett
The Canadian, RJ Barrett, is easily the most talented freshman in the country. So naturally, any coach would look to him as a number one scorer. Not only is he able to slash to the rim for an easy two around the rim, but he can also hold his own from beyond the arc. As the likely number one overall pick in next years NBA Draft, Barrett will find himself being guarded by opposing teams best defenders very frequently. Barrett is an offensive juggernaut and all around skilled in every offensive facet with an alpha dog mentality.
Zion Williamson
The athletic freak that is Zion Williamson will be a problem in the paint this coming season. While he proved to everyone on Duke’s Canadian trip that he could score inside with ease, he also flashed a three-point shot. Yet another Duke freshman predicted to go top three in next years draft, Williamson will demand a ton of help defenses when he is in the paint.
Cam Reddish
Arguably Duke’s best shooter this season, Cam Reddish is yet another projected top three pick in the upcoming draft. Reddish is as polished as they come offensively, but unfortunately, he was unable to play on Duke’s Canada Tour. He is an extremely quiet person and does not talk much when out on the court, but he can easily take over a game and score in quick bursts.
The Verdict
In my opinion, I don’t believe Duke should go anywhere other than RJ Barrett as the number one scoring option. He is too complete on the offensive side of the ball to not look towards on offense. While I do believe Duke’s number one scoring option will change game to game, Barrett will always start games as Duke’s lead offensive option.
