Lions Roll Over Packers At Home For First Division Win

The Detroit Lions, even though at home, came out as the underdogs on Sunday but proved that they are still a team that comes to play. The Lions shut out the Packers in the first half and ultimately held them to 23 points the whole game.

Missteps For The Packers

The big story of this game is the Packers’ long-time kicker Mason Crosby. He has been with Green Bay for all 12 years of his career. Crosby missed four of five field goals and his only extra point attempt, essentially costing Green Bay a win. He has always been a reliable kicker, and coming into today he was 10/11 on the season- his only miss was against the Minnesota Vikings.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had two fumbles in the first half giving them both up to Detroit. Before this game he had just four fumbles and only lost two of them. Rodgers threw 32/52 for 442 yards and three touchdowns. The quarterback is normally good under pressure, but in Sunday’s contest, he showed how good he really is. Rodgers threw for three touchdowns against the Lions’ blitz. He did not throw for another touchdown against the blitz in Week 1-4.

During the Lions’ first punt of the game, a questionable call was made. Referees said that the ball hit the back of second-year cornerback Kevin King. Others believed that it hit the arm of the Lions’ player pushing him out of the way. Because of this, the Lions received the ball at the Packers one-yard line and scored their first touchdown.

High Points For The Lions

Quarterback Mathew Stafford threw 14/26 for 183 yards and two touchdowns. He was able to connect with wide receiver Kenny Golladay four times for 98 yards. Coming into Week 5, the Lions were in the last place in the league for touchdowns in the red zone. Against Green Bay, they were four of six.

Outside linebacker Romeo Okwara has been a real star for the Lions in the last few games. This week Okwara recorded two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Another star of the game would be running back LeGarrette Blount scored two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter, tying his record from last season while a part of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Detroit moves to 2-3 while Green Bay falls to 2-2-1. Their next meeting is in Week 17 at Lambeau Field.
