DeMarcus Cousins Banks Puma Deal
DeMarcus Cousins of the Golden State Warriors has inked a multi-year sneaker deal with Puma. Although the center has been lacing up Nike since the beginning of his NBA career, he’s sported “DMC” Nike PEs along with classic “Air Jordans”. Could this be the end for Cousins with the Nike brand? Nike still has a 10-day window to exercise their match clause window. This was reported earlier by Hip-Hop News, Shams Charania, and ESPN’s Nick DePaula.

This will be a huge deal for Puma if they can acquire the 28-year-old big man from Nike. Cousins is currently recovering from an Achilles injury, but the center is getting healthier and fattening up his bank account. This comes after a 20-year interval of major athlete signings. Puma began a comeback by signing several possible breakout NBA rookies. They’ve signed DeAndre Ayton, Marvin Bagley |||, Kevin Knox, Michael Porter Jr., and Zhaire Smith. Cousins will be joining the ranks with NBA veterans in forward Rudy Gay and point guard Terry Rozier.

Nike is also in jeopardy of losing Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward. Hayward signed an offer sheet with Chinese sportswear “Anita” brand. Nike will also have to contemplate on exercising their 10-day match option. If Puma can finalize the deal with Cousins, then this could give them a hard push back into the market.
This is a very lucrative deal for both Cousins and Puma at this juncture of his NBA career. He is still achieving great things in his career and there seems to be nothing standing in the big man’s way. His first season with the Warriors will more than likely begin halfway into the season. But he is already making a splash before he’s even started the next phase of his career with the Warriors.
