Boston Celtics Fall to Cavaliers 102-95

The Boston Celtics pick up their second loss of the pre-season to the Cavaliers. In a game without Kyrie Irving (rest), the Celtics were exposed with their complacency. While the Celtics seemed to sleepwalk through the game, the Cavaliers got out to a 20 point lead. Although, the Celtics were able to make the game closer towards the end, it was Cleveland pulling through.

At the end of the day, the Cavaliers came out and played like they had something to prove. As a matter of fact, they did. After losing Lebron James in the offseason, they came out to say, “we are still a contender in the East”. Although that may not be realistic, the Cavaliers are still a team that will make you earn a win against them.

The Boston Celtics Offense Was Out of Sync

As previously stated, the Celtics were sleepwalking through the game. When the leading scorer is Marcus Smart, then the team is destined to lose. The offense wasn’t being executed as well as it could be because Brad Stevens decided to give the bench unit more minutes tonight. When the starters were on the court, they were sloppy at best. That could be a product of Irving resting. The main takeaways from this game is the outstanding efforts given by some of the bench when they got the opportunity.

Terry Rozier was especially disappointing in his extended run. His six points on 28% from the field was the fuel that helped the Cavaliers run. His matchup last night, rookie Collin Sexton, scored 15 while draining 2 from beyond the arc.

Player of the Game: Walter Lemon Jr.

Now Celtics fans, do not be ashamed of not knowing who this guy is. Before the Celtics signed him to a two-way deal back in July, I had never heard of him. However, he has been impressive in his first 3 preseason games. Last night, he dropped 12 points, but his real presence is felt by his activity on defense. His leadership on the court was apparent during every minute he played. I hope to see him get more run in the last two pre-season games.

The Celtics will have their rematch with the Cavaliers on Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena. This team is known for bouncing back after loses. Expect them to rest some more starters, and try to experiment with different units on Saturday.
