Wake Forest Lands 4-Star Prospect in Ismael Massoud

On Monday, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons were recipients of fantastic news as four-star recruit Ismael Massoud verbally committed. The 6-foot-8, 200 pound forward hails from the Bronx but is playing his basketball at The MacDuffie School in Massachusetts. Massoud currently ranks as the 125th recruit in the nation and is also the first for Wake Forest’s 2019 class.

Massoud still has recruiting visits scheduled with both Georgia Tech and Rutgers. With the announcement on Monday however, it seems those visits are now unlikely. Massoud had a total of 25 different offers from Division I schools that would include Auburn, Arizona State, Florida State, Harvard, and South Carolina.

Massoud Likes the Coaching

The main catalyst for Massoud’s decision to play in Winston-Salem was due to Danny Manning and the Demon Deacon coaching staff. Despite the fact that assistant Jamill Jones was placed on adminstrative leave following assault charges in New York, Massoud believes the coaching staff was a big reason for his selection. With all the coaches at Wake Forest having professional playing experience, along with the consistent interest shown in the Bronx talent, Massoud felt Wake Forest was the right choice.

“There’s so much I can learn from in terms of my own development along with their top notch strength and conditioning program, and then the school itself was beautiful with a family feel as well as their top notch academics which made them the best of both worlds.”

The versatility keeps on coming into Winston-Salem, something head coach Danny Manning wants to see from his team. The addition of Massoud definitely adds versatility, along with the new prospects debuting for the Demon Deacons this season. Those players include Jaylen Hoard and Isaiah Mucius, both of which are 6-foot-8 wing players with solid defense. Both players can also score, highlighting an offensive game. Those two descriptions also seem to fit Massoud very nicely.
