Mohamed Salah Wins 2018 Puskás Award

Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Salah won the 2018 Puskás Award. Among the other candidates were Gareth Bale, Denis Cheryshev, Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, Giorgian de Arrascaeta, and Riley McGree. In addition, Lionel Messi, Benjamin Pavard, Ricardo Quaresma and perhaps the biggest snub, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Many pundits believe that Bale and Ronaldo’s goals were far better than Salah’s. The goals had more value to them as well. Bale’s goal was against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions finals. While Ronaldo’s was against Juventus in Champions semifinals. However, the goal that saw the Egyptian King spin pass two Everton players gained most of the votes cast for the award.

The award, which is named after a Hungary and Real Madrid player Ferenc Puskás, was the first announced at the Gala held in London.

Upon receiving the award Salah said:

“I am very happy and very proud.

“I have to thank everyone who for voted me.”
