La Liga
Getafe vs Atletico de Madrid Preview
Atletico Madrid skip across town to play neighbors Getafe in Saturday’s ‘mini’ Madrid derby. The visitors have had a terrible start to the league, winning only one of their four matches. However, an impressive victory mid-week in Europe means Diego Simeone’s men may have found their way.
Conversely, Getafe sit 5th in the league after a promising start. Including an impressive win against Sevilla, the ‘Azulones’ have only lost once, an expected away defeat to Real Madrid. Manager José Bordalás will feel confident in his squad to withstand Atletico at home. So far, the team has only conceded two goals in La Liga.
Team News
It’s very difficult to predict Simeone’s lineup. The Argentinian has used various combinations since the beginning of the season with no particular consistency. It’s possible that Atletico lineup with a team similar to that which delivered their only win of the season. Santiago Arias, Nikola Kalinic, Savic and Vitolo are all out with injury.
Likewise, Getafe have four injured players ahead of Saturday’s match. One being key midfielder Mauro Arambarri. Along with him are midfielders Markel Bergara and Ignasi Miquel as well as defender Djene Dakonam. However, all four stand a chance of being cleared in time for kick-off.
Lineups and Match Prediction
Atletico: Oblak, Juanfran, Gimenez, Godin, Hernandez, Correa, Saul. Lemar, Griezmann, Costa
Getafe: David Soria, Suarez, Cabrera, Gonzalez, Antunes, Portillo, Cristoforo, Maksimovic, Alejo, Molina, Angel
Despite the great start Bordalás’ men have enjoyed in La Liga, it’s difficult to predict victory for the home side on Saturday. Atletico desperately need a win having already fallen behind Real Madrid and Barcelona in the title race. Moreover, ‘Los Colchoneros’ have defeated their hosts five out of the previous six meetings. Expect a boring and uneventful match which sees Atletico finally begin their La Liga title challenge.
