Game Recap Penn State Against Kent State
Penn State officially wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule over the weekend against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Penn State showed their offense and defense can play. Here is the game recap of Penn State against Kent State.
Penn State
Penn State showed that they’re here to play for the long term. Furthermore, offensively, Trace McSorley has continued to show his Heisman hype this season. During the game, McSorley went 11 for 22 for 229 yards along with two touchdowns, one interception and one sack.
Miles Sanders had 14 rushes for 87 yards. However, he didn’t record a touchdown. Besides Sanders, Penn State got production in the running game. Most notably, Johnathan Thomas rushed three time for 84 yards and one touchdown. Additionally the true production in the running game came from none other than Trace McSorley. Besides passing, McSorley rushed for 6 yards on nine attempts and scored three touchdowns. In other words, Trace McSorley was the Penn State offense.
Defensively, Cam Brown led the way with seven total tackles, three solo and four assisted (two tackles for loss and a total of five yards). Behind him, Micah Parsons finished with five tackles, two solo and three assisted, and Jonathan Sutherland also had five tackles, four solo and one assisted.
Receiving wise, DeAndre Thompkins led the way with four receptions for 101 yards including a touchdown. Daniel George and Brandon Polk each had a receiving touchdown as well.
Kent State
Kent State, on the other hand, didn’t have much going for them in the game. They managed to only score 10 points in the entire game. Quarterback Woody Barrett completed 20 of his 38 attempted passes for 176 yards and one touchdown. On the other hand, Penn State’s defense got the best of him, sacking him a total of seven times throughout the game.
Offensively, receiver Mike Carrigan had the lone touchdown for the Golden Flashes as he had three receptions for 58 yards total.
Rushing was split between a couple of backs with Joel Shaw getting the bulk of the work load with 10 rushes for 31 yards. However, no rushing touchdowns came on the ground for Kent State.
Defensively, Dalton Hicks had himself a day with 12 total tackles. Four were solo and eight were assisted. Matt Bahr also had nine tackles, three solo and six assisted.
Conclusion
In six meetings to date, Penn State has won all of them. Every meeting has taken place at Penn State. Penn State won the game 63-10 which is by far their biggest victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes. Penn State now gets set for Big Ten conference play when they travel to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini. The game is set for Friday at 9 pm.
