WWE
AOP
AOP, the Authors of Pain, was one of the most dominant tag teams in NXT. The team of Akam and Rezar were led by a legendary manager and a Hall Of Famer, Paul Ellering; managing the likes of another legendary tag team the Road Warriors/Legions Of Doom (Hawk and Animal), and the biker gang, The Disciples of Apocalypse (DOA).
Quick note: I’m guessing WWE has a thing with shortening team’s names when with Paul Ellering.
Ellering did lead Akam and Rezar to their first ever Tag Team Title victory at NXT Take Over: San Antonio. They were the second team to win The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament in 2016. They also were one of the three teams to ever compete in a WarGames match (double rings in a steel caged).
RAW Debut!
Back in April 2018, they were called up to the main roster and were sent to RAW. Yet, they couldn’t make a name of themselves and were later kept off from TV. According to Dave Meltzer, the real reason they are not being used was simply that the creative team didn’t know how to push them. Interesting, as they were the most exciting duo on NXT. Or maybe this was because of the loss of their centerpiece and manager Paul Ellering. Rumors circulated Ellering wasn’t able to handle the grueling traveling schedule.
Is it a Painful Return for the Duo?
This month, the Authors of Pain returned to TV with only being named as “AOP” and managed by 205Live GM Drake Maverick (popular as Rockstar Spud in the indies). The reason behind this may possibly be that the Authors need someone to cut a good promo on their behalf and to make them look huge. But the pairing is a “little” unmatched and WWE Universe is letting them know. Even Maverick couldn’t help but change his official Twitter account’s cover photo.
AOP Needs a Real Mouthpiece
With all due respect to 205Live’s GM, he’s not a suitable manager for them and soon the officials will realize that. Don’t get me wrong, Maverick is doing an incredible GM job in 205Live. Pairing him with the team is something that I just don’t like, and not because of his size. It’s just that the AOP needs someone ruthless or someone who managed ruthless wrestlers before.
Yes, you know where I’m going with this.
I’m talking about Paul Heyman, and I even posted on WWE’s Twitter account this idea. I sent them a photo, cropping out Maverick and putting Heyman in it. There are also rumors that when Heyman returns to WWE programming, he’ll have his own stable. So what better way to manage AOP and have his revenge on The Shield’s very own Roman Reigns!?
Heyman is the only guy to bring the duo to a dominating path. Let’s add Bobby Lashley as the third member and we have one of the most powerful stables under Paul Heyman.
Why Bobby Lashley? you ask.
Have you seen him as a good heel in Impact Wrestling? He did way better there as their heel Heavyweight Champion than being a face/mid-card in WWE now. He only beat Reigns once but got beaten by the big dog the next coming week for the opportunity to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. So Lashley has the motive to turn heel on the Shield.
How to Set the Match
AOP vs Reigns and Lashley; at the end of the match Lashley turn on Reigns and everyone thinks Maverick is the mastermind behind Lashley heel turn. Instead, we hear “Ladies and Gentlemen” … Heyman comes out, and AOP turns on their manager Maverick. Now WWE has a real strong heel stable in WWE. This will feel real, unlike Strowman randomly forming an alliance with Ziggler and Mcintyre.
AOP has a real bright future as one of the most dominating tag team in WWE but with the right person to manage them.
