49ers Roster: Cuts and Practice Squad
The San Francisco 49ers roster has been reduced with recent roster cuts, with the Niners making all their necessary personnel moves before releasing their 53-man roster.
While some cuts came somewhat unexpectedly, they were, for the most part, right on the money.
49ers Roster Cuts
The 49ers waived/released the following 21 players. However, some have been signed to the practice squad since clearing waivers.
Offence
QB: Nick Mullens

The most unexpected cut was that of DL Jeremiah Attaochu. The 49ers signed Attaochu during the offseason from the Chargers. It was hoped that Attaochu could help with the Niners’ pass rush. General Manager John Lynch had this to say:
“Jerry was a guy we were excited (about), unfortunately, due to some injuries during camp, we just didn’t get that many opportunities to correctly evaluate him. When you go into the regular season, dependability in terms of knowing a guy is going to be out there is important, and we just didn’t have that feeling. We made a tough decision but one we felt we had to.”
Tight end Cole Hikutini also failed to impress during the preseason. Hikutini lost out to Cole Wick in the battle for third-string TE.
Jonathan Cooper was let go as well after failing to secure a position at guard.
49ers Official 53-Man Roster
With no real surprises, the 49ers announced their initial 53-man roster. The Niners roster may change over the coming weeks, with the inclusion of players signed from waivers and the return of suspended players.
