In his Twitter announcement, Dumervil states:
“My body still feels great, and I know I can still help a team win. I will miss being on the field, particularly on Sundays. But I also have a wife and two young children that need me and a real estate business that I can now turn my attention to full-time.”
Dumervil entered the league in 2006 as a fourth-round draft pick for the Denver Broncos. He ended up being a five-time Pro-Bowler and two-time All-Pro Selectee.
Elvis Dumervil played for the Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, and San Francisco 49ers throughout his prolific 12 year career. Regarded as one of the most elite pass rushers in his prime, Dumervil tallied up 105.5 sacks — ranking at 26th on the all-time list.
Dumervil was an incredible player and would’ve still had a positive impact on his team had he not retired. The man led the 49ers in sacks at the age of 34 last season. As an admired defensive lineman with a well-respected career behind him, it was only right to go out on top.
