Frye Gives Advice On What It’s Like To Play With The King
Channing Frye is back with the Cleveland Cavaliers and he has a warning for the young guys in Los Angeles on LeBron James. Channing said playing with James was much harder and a lot more demanding than many people seemed to realize. Frye told USA Today what it’s like to play with James.
“There’s who you expect to be and then who you are when you play with LeBron. It’s two different things.
I don’t know if they truly understand what it’s like to play with him because there is no room for mistakes. Because in all actuality, he could do it himself. He could lead a team to 40 wins by himself.
“I think for all of them they’re going to have to have a reality check, not only them but the people around them. There’s going to say, not a growing period, but a humility.”
Frye also pointed out that playing fast, loose and together – as the Lakers did last year on the way to their best season in a rough five-year patch – could prove difficult with the dominating presence that is James.
James’ Expectations
Frye gave some very insightful points on what these young guys should expect playing with King James. We’ve seen players succeed and we have also seen players crumble playing alongside James. The expectations will be set for a playoff spot. I think James will be able to do that with this young core.
With James’ presence and winning pedigree, he may want nothing short of 110% effort from his young teammates. Playing for the Lakers organization comes with immense pressure to perform, and their fanbase is expecting for them to win. Frye was letting James’ teammates know what time it is.
Next Season
The Lakers will be an interesting experiment next season. We will see how the guys gel and watch how certain players develop under James. I hope they were listening to Frye, and were taking notes on how to play with The King.
