Will Mourinho Be First Coach Fired Come December?
Sunday’s dismal defeat against Brighton has cranked the pressure on Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho is now the favorite to be the first Premier League manager to be fired this season.
When Jose returned to the Premier League to become manager of Chelsea for a second time, he professed that he was now the ‘happy one’.
However, since he has been in charge of Manchester United he has become the ‘moaning one’.
From moaning about not being able to buy defensive reinforcements to openly criticizing his players. Such negativity is bound to rub off on the rest of the squad with United’s attacking players looking low on self-esteem.
Alarm Bells Ringing
Sunday’s performance against Brighton epitomized what United have started to become under Mourinho. The first half was littered with defensive mistakes with Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof the main culprits.
Mourinho bought Bailly and Lindelof for a combined total of $70 million. It’s fair to say that none of Mourinho’s signings have made a big impact. Paul Pogba has his moments but against Brighton seemed to drift out of a game he should be dominating.
However, it was the second half, which should have alarm bells ringing. 3-1 down you expect United to come out the blocks and create chance after chance to get back into the game.
None of which happened. There appeared to be no reaction at all despite a half time team talk from Mourinho. Mourinho may have lost the dressing room but will he be gone by December? The answer probably not.
If United are outside the top four then they may have no option but to fire the Portuguese. Zinedine Zidane and Mauricio Pochettino have been touted as potential replacements.
Both of whom will be able to bring back the attacking free flowing football that United fans crave.
