NCAA Football
ASU Football Preview. The Herm Edwards Project.
Of all the coaching hires this offseason, none has been questioned and scrutinized more than the Hire of Herm Edwards. People said that he hasn’t coached in ten years, hasn’t been in college football in 30, and even when he did coach he wasn’t that good. Yet every student, ticket-holder, and faculty member I’ve talked to is excited about the hire, and they see promise in his honest charismatic style. And maybe there is a chance he can succeed. Especially with players like Manny Wilkins, N’Keal Harry, and Brandon Ruiz.
One big question?
Will Coach Edwards work out? Its been asked a million times now by nearly everyone. But it will soon be answered. Edwards is known as a defensive coach. So will he make more strides on the defensive side, and how will Quarterback Manny Wilkins do with his 4th offensive coordinator? and how will a historically bad defense adjust to the new 3-3-5 defense coordinator Danny Gonzalez will be running?
Prediction
As a student and fan, I can definitely see this team go 12-0. However, my restrained optimism has me placing them at 7-5 realistically. With losses to Michigan State, Washington, Stanford, USC, and Oregon.
Game to Watch
Michigan State will be the first big test for the new coach. All eyes will be on Tempe to see him fail. So how will the coach and team play and fight in a primetime game as underdogs.
Upset Alert
I have them beating Arizona, However, as always, The game will be a hard fought one for pride and the Territorial Cup. The Sun Devils won last year. But the Wildcats want revenge, and see this as their key to a division and possibly PAC-12 title. So the real question is. How will this chapter of this storied rivalry play out?
