The Dodgers Lose By Balk In The 10th Inning Against Seattle

The Dodgers lose by balk in the 10th inning from Dylan Floro. There is a different taste left in one’s mouth after watching this game against Seattle than last night’s. For starters, last night’s win was huge and by ten runs. Tonight’s game, however, was a loss by one run, in extra innings and because of a fluke balk call. Here’s how the game went down.

To Start the Game

For Dodgers fans, the game started out great with an RBI single by Cody Bellinger to drive in Joc Pederson. Seattle would then fire back and score four runs in the bottom of the first, to take the lead 4-1. The game would then go to a pitcher’s dual for the next several innings, where Rich Hill would throw a scoreless six. However, that first inning would later come back to haunt the Dodgers.

Going into the eighth inning, the Mariners were leading 4-1. However, Justin Turner would break the many scoreless innings with a solo home run to extend his hitting streak to twelve games. Also, Cody Bellinger would crush a ball for his 20th “Belli-Bomb” of the season, also in the eighth inning.

Next, the Dodgers would go into the ninth inning trailing by one run, 4-3. However, Max Muncy would extend the game with his 28th “Muncy Mash.” The Mariners would get a few base runners on in the bottom of the ninth but were kept at bay and unable to score, extending the game into extra innings.

Extras…

Justin Turner got on in the 10th inning and then stole second. The Dodgers who have not been known for speed this year, have been quite aggressive with base running lately and are leading the National League in steals for August. Be that as it may, nothing more came of the timely steal, and the top of the tenth ended with the Dodgers going scoreless.

Caleb Ferguson continued to pitch and started the bottom of the tenth but then got replaced by Dylan Floro. With bases loaded in the tenth inning, Kyle Seager (Dodger SS Corey Seager’s brother),  was up to bat. Then, before there was a chance for the Dodgers to extend the game, Floro was called for a balk, and the game was over. Dave Roberts tried to interject and to say he was stepping off the plate. However, the umpires wanted nothing to do with it and marched straight under the dugout, and the game was over.

One can’t blame the game on one movement or non-movement. At least a real Dodger fan can’t. However, they can’t keep expecting to win on solo homers alone. I wouldn’t worry yet, as I said earlier in the year when many were counting the Dodgers out. The Dodgers are uber talented up and down their lineup and on their bench. Also, their pitching staff is deep, especially when they are healthy, which they finally are getting. Point being, don’t let this recent losing pattern get in the way of the team they are capable of and will be.
