Mike Montgomery To The Disabled List For 10 Days
Cubs reliever Mike Montgomery is going to the 10-day DL with a left shoulder inflammation. This guy is more valuable than you may think. He is sometimes in the rotation as a spot starter, but he is mostly used as a middle relief pitcher for the Cubs. His job is to get the game through the middle innings and get to the 7th or 8th inning for the big relievers. Mike Montgomery is good at this as he has a good ERA at 3.62. However, the Cubs won’t have that for the next 10 days, possibly even longer.
The Left Arm
A shoulder inflammation isn’t the worst injury in the world. That is why he is on the only the 10-day DL. The problem is that it is on his throwing arm. This could mean he will either be gone for a little longer, or he will have a high chance of re-injury. That being said, he is a reliever and he could just not get as many pitching spots. Either if the Cubs start doing well and they don’t need him as much, or they could just use another pitcher instead of Mike Montgomery.
Will He Be Back to Form?
I expect Mike Montgomery to be back to form. I do expect it to be a little longer than 10 days since it is on his throwing arm. With that being said, the Cubs are going to need him to be in top condition. This is shaping up to be some of the most competitive playoffs in a long time. Against a team like the Dodgers, the Cubs are going to have to be ready to use a lot of that pen. Monty is a great lefty that can eat up innings to give other guys some rest. All in all, he will be back.
