Cubs Split Two-Game Series With Brewers, Still Three Games

An always important two-game series between the Cubs and the Brewers were played over the past two days. The Cubs dropped the first game with a 7-0 loss but came right back and won the next game 8-4. Cubs split two-game series, staying at three games up on the Brewers with just 43 games left in the regular season. Although these two teams will play six more times throughout the rest of the season. The race should stay pretty competitive until the very end.

Kyle Hendricks Not Dominant But Keeps Cubs In Front

After tossing an ERA of 3.34 in July, Kyle Hendricks has digressed a tad although the Cubs are still winning games he’s started. So, even if he hasn’t been lights out, he’s still giving the Cubs a chance to win the game. Which is just as important as any stat you can rattle off. Kyle was indeed dominant for the first six innings giving up only two runs on six hits. However, got tagged for a couple more in the seventh which ultimately changed the entire outlook on his start. Nonetheless, he kept was able t keep the Cubs in front, and that’s what matters.

Offense Comes Back From Shutout Scoring Eight Runs

Scoring eight runs on 13 hits, the Cubs offense came back after a nasty shutout in the first of a two-game set. Started by an Anthony Rizzo two-run home run, followed by a barrage of base hits. Something in which the Brewers couldn’t come back and get the win. Rizzo had the most impactful performance going 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. After having an abysmal April in which he was batting just .158. Anthony Rizzo has climbed all the way back to a not ideal but .265 AVG. In his last 30 games, Rizzo is batting .330/.433/.563 with six home runs and 19 RBIs. If he can keep this up, and when Bryant returns this will be a very dangerous offense.
