Jimmy Garoppolo Discusses Richie James

The final joint practice between the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans has been wrapped up. It was an advantageous camp for both teams, with plenty of big plays made on both sides of the ball.

Rookie WR Richie James has continued to impress during practice, following on from his display during the Niners win over the Dallas Cowboys. Garoppolo threw a ball to James down the sideline into double coverage which the young rookie had no trouble reeling in.

However, it may be difficult for the 49ers to squirrel away Richie James onto their practice squad should they not include him on their 53-man roster. With some teams bound to require a receiver at some stage, James is looking like a good option.

“It’s nice as a quarterback having a guy like Richie. Whatever you throw, he’s going to go get it. It’s that trust factor between quarterback and receiver. It’s nice to have that.

I think Richie is coming along well. All of those rookies, they are putting in the time. Him, Dante, all of those guys. It’s starting to come together.”

Training Camp Progress

Garoppolo, of course, was asked about his ongoing work with the deep ball and if he was happy where it’s at.

“There’s a number of things that we still are working on. We try not to be happy or satisfied with anything. We’ll always try to push through short gain, mid-range, and deep balls obviously.

We’re always trying to improve those. It’s a work in progress, and we’re trying to get it as well amped up as we can.”

Garoppolo was also happy with how this offseason has been progressing.

“It’s been good having OTAs, training camp, a whole offseason to really slow things down. Last year was kind of, learn this by the end of the week and we’ll figure it out on Sunday. So, having Kyle and Rich being able to describe how everything is tied together, it makes my job easier.”

The San Francisco 49ers will line up against the Houston Texans on the 18th August.
