Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne Suffers Serious Knee Injury
Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne suffered a knee injury in today’s training as reported by Kristof Terreur. The full extent of the injury is unknown yet. However, City fears he might be out for a while, at least two months.
In addition, the club issued a statement in which they have confirmed the injury:
“Kevin De Bruyne is undergoing tests on his right knee after sustaining an injury at training on Wednesday. The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin’s condition in due course.”
In 2016, the Belgian sustained a similar injury which kept him on the sidelines for nine weeks. In that occasion, De Bruyne flew immediately to Barcelona for treatment. That time, the injury was on during a game against Everton. Also, it was confirmed that he had torn ligaments in his knee and ankle that time.
City boss Pep Guardiola had high hopes for him. He had been a major piece of his playing scheme last season that led them to the Premier League title. Nevertheless, City will have to face Huddersfield on Sunday without him. In addition, Guardiola will have to rely on David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden as alternative options on the creative side.
The Citizens will face Wolves, Newcastle, Fulham, Cardiff City, Brighton and Liverpool in the next couple of weeks. He will likely return to action against Burnley on October 20 or against Tottenham on October 28.
