SummerSlam 2018 Match Card
Things have been heating up in the build heading towards the “biggest party of the summer.” Between championships, Money in the Bank, blood feuds, and making a “Big 4” debut, SummerSlam 2018 is definitely going to be a must see pay-per-view.
(Pre-Show) Lana & Rusev vs Zelina Vega & Andrade “Cien” Almas
Lana has been unsuccessful twice against Zelina Vega in their pair of matches on SmackDown Live. Andrade Almas also holds a victory over Rusev. This match should be entertaining, with Rusev’s charisma and Andrade’s ring skill, and is an excellent way to kickoff SummerSlam 2018.
Daniel Bryan vs The Miz
8 years in the making. This feud has been building up to a rapid boil since the original NXT in 2010. The Miz insists he should get the respect and fanfare that his long time rival has gotten. Daniel Bryan is set to prove that The Miz is all talk and can’t go head to head with a wrestler like himself.
Finn Balor vs Constable Baron Corbin
Each man holds one pay-per-view victory over the other. This match will decide the better of the two one more time.
Braun Strowman vs Kevin Owens
Braun Strowman has been on an absolute rampage against Kevin Owens. Whether it was flipping over his “Kevin Owens Show” stage, pushing him off the main stage in a port-o-john, or throwing him off a steel cage, Braun has stopped at nothing to hurt Owens. However, if Braun were to lose this match in any way, Kevin Owens will win his Money in the Bank briefcase.
Cedric Alexander (c) vs Drew Gulak (Cruiserweight Championship)
Drew Gulak won a Fatal 4-Way match on the July 24th episode of 205 Live. The following week, Drake Maverick announced that the title match would be at SummerSlam 2018. Can Gulak’s submission specialty defeat the champion? Or will the “Soul of 205 Live” better his competition?
The Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs The New Day (SmackDown Tag Team Championships)
The New Day won a four-team tournament for a chance to challenge the Bludgeon Brothers. Harper and Rowan are currently undefeated in title defenses since their crowning at WrestleMania 34. The New Day’s high-flying, charismatic ring presence versus the Bludgeon Brothers brute strength should make for an interesting match.
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Jeff Hardy vs POSSIBLY Randy Orton (United States Championship)
We’ll see if this happens following Randy Orton’s unfortunate allegations.
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs Seth Rollins (Intercontinental Championship)
Seth Rollins is getting a second rematch for the Intercontinental Championship after losing it to Ziggler on RAW and then losing the first rematch at Extreme Rules in an Iron Man Match. Drew McIntyre may play a key roll in the ending to this match, since he has interfered before.
Carmella (c) vs Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair (SmackDown Women’s Championship)
Becky Lynch needed to defeat Carmella to finally earn a chance at reclaiming the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The following week, Charlotte Flair made a triumphant return and was given the same chance. Both women made the champion tap out with their respective submission holds and made the match a Triple Threat. There seems to be some kind of unspoken frustration from Becky about her friend being added to the match. Still, with each women’s amazing in-ring skill, this match should be one for the ages.
Alexa Bliss (c) vs Ronda Rousey (RAW Women’s Championship)
Saying this sentence still feels unbelievable: Ronda Rousey is challenging Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2018. Even though Ronda has been with the company for eight months, and has had three televised matches, she has earned a shot at Alexa Bliss. It would take a tremendous amount of strength, endurance, and luck if Alexa Bliss hopes to walk out of SummerSlam with the women’s championship still around her waist. Alexa has stated that she can beat Ronda because Ronda is an “over-hyped rookie.” Ronda responded by locking Alexa in her signature arm-bar submission.
AJ Styles (c) vs Samoa Joe (WWE Championship)
Speaking of sentences that feel unbelievable to say: AJ Styles and Samoa Joe will be battling it out this Sunday at SummerSlam for the WWE Championship. Joe was announced as AJ’s challenger, and since then this rivalry has become extremely personal. Joe has called AJ a failure as a father and has personally promised to send him home to his family after he has beaten him for his championship. Both been are amazing athletes, but it will be Joe’s Coquina Clutch versus AJ’s Phenomenal Forearm.
Brock Lesnar (c) vs Roman Reigns (Universal Championship)
Can fourth time be the charm for Roman Reigns? Brock Lesnar has been Universal Champion for over 490 days (shattering CM Punk’s record at 434). Lesnar has put away challengers such as Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, Kane and Roman Reigns on several occasions. Reigns earned yet another title shot after beating Bobby Lashley in a number one contender match. Lesnar has promised to leave SummerSlam 2018 as champion, but Roman has been building momentum to the point where it seems very likely that he will finally capture his first Universal Championship.
As is the case with the WWE, all matches are subject to change.
