MLB
I’m going to guess that most of you don’t keep up with minor league baseball. Well, that is why I am here to keep you up to date. So you know who Vladimir Guerrero is right? Well his son, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., has been tearing it up in AAA for the Buffalo Bisons, the Blue Jays’ AAA team. He has a stat line that I haven’t seen for a minor leaguer. So let’s dive into the stats, the recent performance, and when he might be called up to the MLB.
The Stats
So Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. has possibly the best stat line that I have ever seen for a minor league player. In 11 games in AAA, he is hitting .441. And if you combine his AA stats, he has a .406 average, 24 doubles, 18 home runs, and he has almost as many walks (30) as he has strikeouts (31). It’s no wonder that mini Vladdy is #1 on the MLB’s top prospects list. The 19-year-old sure will be a sight to watch when he gets to Toronto. Oh, and do I even need to mention he has a cannon for an arm like his dad?
The Recent Performance
So as stated in the title, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. has homered in 4 straight games. If you watch the tape from Saturday’s homer you will be impressed. On a 2-2 pitch, Guerrero gets an outside fastball. Most young hitters will try to pull the ball, but not Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. He does what you should do, and he hits a rocket the opposite way. The ball barely tips off of Mikie Mahtook’s glove and it’s gone. While it wasn’t a 470-foot blast, the fact that he can control the bat and punch that pitch the other way is scary. This proves he is a threat in any count, and he can attack the whole field. This means that if the infield puts on a shift, it won’t work. That is a very valuable asset for an MLB player.
When Will the Blue Jays Call Up Vladimir Guerrero, Jr?
So the question remains, when will we see Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. in a Blue Jays uniform? I think it will be sooner rather than later. The one thing that confuses me is that yesterday, the Blue Jays announced that they would call up another top prospect, that’s not Guerrero. They called up 23-year-old catcher Danny Jansen. While Jansen is good and he played in the Futures Game, he isn’t even CLOSE to the level of Guerrero. He is a respectable player as he has a .275 average and 12 home runs in 88 AAA games, but I still think they either should’ve called up either just Guerrero or Jansen and Guerrero. None the less, these two players are the future of baseball in Canada. As for Guerrero, I think he will either be a September call-up, or the Jays will wait until the start of the 2019 season. I personally think he will be in a Jays uniform in September this year. The one thing that is for certain is whenever he is called up, it will be a sight to see.
