Kenley Jansen’s Irregular Heartbeat Sends Him To The DL

Bad news and more injuries yet again for the Dodgers. Yesterday, the Dodgers announced that Kenley Jansen’s irregular heartbeat would be sending him to the disabled list. Jansen has been placed on the disabled list; it’s expected that Jansen will miss a month, but could be longer.

The issue first arose Thursday night in Denver, when Dave Roberts announced that Jansen was hospitalized and would be returning to Los Angeles due to an irregular heartbeat. However, this isn’t Kenley Jansen’s first time with irregular heartbeat issues or having them in Colorado either. Back in 2011 and 2012, the Dodgers’ All-star closer had irregular heartbeat issues as well. In fact, the incident in 2012 was also when the Dodgers were playing the Rockies in Denver, and later that year Jansen had to have heart surgery. Since then, there have been no other known or reported issues with Kenley’s heart, until now.

Playing in Colorado is different than playing anywhere else. With Denver’s super high elevation, it can cause numerous adverse effects on the human body. Add to the matter someone who has previous heart issues. That’s exuding themselves like a pro-athlete, is a recipe for failure. Although Jansen didn’t pitch Thursday night, just being in the high elevation might have had something to do with his irregular heartbeat reoccurring.

Bad News For The Dodgers

Injuries aren’t new for the Dodgers this year, as injuries have been following them all season. Kenley Jansen going on the disabled list is the last thing the Dodgers need, as the DL is already quite full, especially with pitchers. Jansen will be joining his pitching buddies: Tony Cingrani, Josh Fields, Yimi Garcia, Erik Goeddel, Daniel Hudson, Alex Wood, Tom Koehler, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Dennis Santa and Julio Urias on the disabled list.

Many are saying Jansen’s having an off year, still leads the N.L with 32 saves, a 2.15 ERA. Not bad for an “off year” and is the most valuable asset in the Dodgers Bullpen.

Rest up Kenley and be ready to rock the post-season!
