Making The Case: Andrew Luck, 2018 MVP

The offseason has provided its fair share of hot takes, but Luck winning the MVP? This might be hard to fathom considering Luck has been out of football for two years. However, no one expected the MVP surge Wentz had in the first half of the 2017 season before his unfortunate injury, so why not Luck? The former Stanford standout is as healthy as ever, putting on an impressive offseason — but is the old Andrew Luck really back? We’re making the case.

The Hot Take

So does Andrew Luck really have a shot to dethrone ‘Tom Terrific’ and take the MVP trophy? When discussing value, few players have had an impact on a team to the magnitude of Luck. Luck has thrown over 4,000 yards in every season where he played 16 games. The Colts have not netted less than 8 wins with Luck at the helm. Prior to the year he was drafted first overall, the Colts went 2-14. With Luck out of the picture in 2017, the Colts went 4-12. It is apparent that this is a different team when Luck is under center.

The Eye Test

When talking QB ceilings, very few match the potential of Andrew Luck. After all, in his career year in 2014, he threw for over 4,700 yards and 40 touchdowns (adding 273 yards and 3 TDs on the ground). Furthermore, fans will not be convinced that Luck can return to form until they see him play. Thankfully, that will come sooner than expected. According to SBCL, Luck will play a quarter in the preseason opener against the Seahawks. So whether or not the fans think Luck has a chance at the MVP, he will be lining up under center on August 9th to prove them wrong.
