Cole Hamels Stifles Royals, As Baez Powers The Offense

In his second start as a Chicago Cub, Cole Hamels stifles Royals offense for just a single run on seven hits. He wasn’t the strike em out pitcher we saw in last weeks start. However, he was dominant enough to keep the Cubs in the game. And let’s not forget about the incredible game Javier Baez had, primarily the driving force of the teams’ offense that game. The bullpen was shut down as well only allowing a single hit after Hamels had left the game.

Cole Hamels Shuts Down Royals Offense

He wasn’t perfect in his start yesterday, but he kept the Royals from crossing the plate. He did give up seven hits, but again all that seems irrelevant when he only gives up a single run. Giving up just one earned run in his two starts. Cole Hamels is starting to become a steal for what the Cubs had to give up. Giving life and hope to a rotation that has struggled as much as any other rotation in baseball. And yet the rotation has been able to stay in the top 10 in most categories despite injuries and some pitchers not producing. If Hamels can keep at it, he could find himself in a playoff rotation spot if Darvish doesn’t come back as soon as the Cubs want him too.

Javier Baez Powers Offense Past Kansas City

What can I say about this kid except wow, he has been a very valuable asset to this team this year. With Kris Bryant in and out with injuries and Rizzo struggling early in the season. Javier Baez was and still is the driving force behind this offense. Giving the Cubs the game-winning run in the sixth inning with a massive 401 ft shot to center field for his 25th home run on the year. And also added an insurance run in the eighth inning when he doubled to right field scoring Jason Heyward. Collecting RBIs #87 and #88 there could be a chance that Baez reaches 100 RBIs before September comes.
