Hendricks Gets The Start As Cubs Go For Series Win Against Padres

Kyle Hendricks gets the start tonight for the Cubs against the Padres. Hendricks who has had his fair share of struggles this season is starting to turn things around in his last six starts. Not giving up more than three earned runs in each start, and able to go at least five innings in each start is what we want to see from Kyle. Now that may not sound like the most magnificent stretch a pitcher has had, but with who the Cubs have in their starting rotation. Kyle Hendricks averaging a three ERA makes a world of difference. Lester has been doing very well all season, Quintana is finally finding his groove as well. Cole Hamels was lights out his first start, and Mike Montgomery has been solid all year as well out of the bullpen with a 3.90 ERA.

Kyle Hendricks Vs. San Diego Padres

Last time Kyle went up against the Pads it didn’t bode well for him. Going 5.0 IP giving up five earned runs on six hits in a game the Cubs ended up losing. However, in his career, Kyle Hendricks is 3-1 against the Padres with a 2.50 ERA in six starts. Averaging around seven innings a start, in those starts he has given up 12 R, 11 ER, 29 H, 6 BB and 41 SO in 39.2 IP with a WHIP of 0.82 and a BAA of .204. So, he’s had overall a lot of success against the Padres. Let’s hope he can keep it rolling because the Cubs need a push to gain a lead on Milwaukee.

Offense Needs To Take Advantage Of Opposing Pitching

On the mound for the Padres tonight is a very young man by the name of Walker Lockett. And so far hasn’t been very good and in two starts hasn’t been able to get anything cooking. Granted it’s his first year, and he has had to face some potent offenses. The Cubs need to take advantage and tag him for as many runs as they can. To not only get the win but to also try and boost the confidence of the offense by beating up on a pitcher.
