Vikings Sign Stefon Diggs to Five-Year Extension

The Minnesota Vikings signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a five-year contract extension. Announced in a public statement Tuesday afternoon, Diggs’ improved deal will keep him in Minneapolis through 2020.

According to ESPN’s Ian Rapoport, Diggs is set to earn at least $72 million with the Vikings. With this extension, Diggs is now among the top ten highest-paid receivers in the league.

Diggs produced over 800 receiving yards with a career-high eight touchdowns last season, his third in the NFL. Diggs, of course, famously scored the walk-off touchdown in the Vikings’ 2017 NFC Divisional playoff — later dubbed the Minneapolis Miracle.

The Vikings Offense

Extending Stefon Diggs’ contract is just the latest move in a busy offseason for the Vikings. Back in March, the Vikings signed free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins to a record three-year, $84 million deal. Trevor Siemian also signed on, providing much-needed depth with the departures of Case Keenum and Teddy Bridgewater.

By signing Diggs long-term, the Vikings retain a key piece of their growing receiving corps. Alongside Diggs and co-star Adam Thielen, the Vikings now have another receiving option in new signing Kendall Wright. With Kyle Rudolph, Latavius Murray, and Dalvin Cook also in the mix, Cousins should have plenty of viable passing options.

The Vikings, who entered this offseason with $53 million in cap space, have certainly made the most of it. In addition to signing new stars like Cousins, they’ve also succeeded in retaining their existing talent.

Committing long-term to Stefon Diggs is yet another example of this. With last season’s NFC Championship defeat still fresh, the Vikings are determined to win the Lombardi trophy this time around.
