After a very quiet opening to the Predators offseason, this is the first significant move Nashville GM David Poile has made. Despite the fact that Poile is known to make big trades and acquisitions, none have been made yet. Poile has also stated that he intends to return the same core group to return to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Having a young core comprised of Johansen, Arviddson, and Forsberg, I don’t blame him.Hamhuis is likely to replace Emelin as the veteran defenseman that plays third pairing minutes.
Expected Defensive Lines
Josi – Ellis
Ekholm – Subban
Irwin – Hamhuis
Additional Notes
Hamhuis was the 12th overall pick back in 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
In the 483 games he played from 2003-2010 as a member of the Predators, he amassed 161 points. He was traded to the Flyers for Ryan Parent; additionally he was a conditional draft pick just prior to free agency in 2011. He signed with the Canucks after failed negotiations with the Flyers in 2011 followed by signing with the Stars in 2016 before returning to the Predators.
Playing 3rd line minutes with the Stars this past season, he had 3 goals and 24 points in 80 games.
