Old Man Vince Carter Soars To The Atlanta Hawks

Vince Carter has now found a team for his 21st season in the NBA. This time, it will be with the Atlanta Hawks. Carter signed a one-year, $2.4 million deal with the Hawks. This will be his eighth NBA team in his two decade long career.

It’s a bit of an odd choice for Carter to go to the Hawks. They’re rebuilding in a “weak” eastern conference. Most players in his situation usually go to a contender teams to get a ring to end their career, but not him. Atlanta has young budding talent in this year’s pick Trae Young and 2017 pick Josh Collins that one can assume Carter will be more mentoring than playing. Continuing his role that he had in Sacramento last season. He seems to be a vet that cares more about passing the game down to the next generation then his own accolades.

Vince Carter, an eight time All-Star, has career averages 17.7 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, and 3 assists in 31.4 minutes a game. In his prime Carter was known for his high-flying dunks, and electrifying offense. Vince was drafted 5th by the Warriors in the 1998 draft. He was on the All-Rookie 1st team and taking home the ’99 Rookie of the Year honors. He helped put the city of Toronto on the map for the NBA. As his career went on he became a journey man role player. Ending up with teams like the Magic, Suns, Mavs, Grizzlies, and most recently Kings. Most years he still proved to be a vital piece on the court, but now has shifted to mentoring. He still shows glimpses of the “Vinsanity” every now and then with a nice dunk, but those days are slowly fading.
