La Liga: Real Madrid Add Alvaro Odriozola From Real Sociedad
Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid add Alvaro Odriozola from Real Sociedad to backup right-back Dani Carvajal. The 22-year-old Basque was part of Spain’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad. In addition, reports indicate the fee was €30 million, plus €5 million of conditional add-ons. He has sign a six-year deal with Los Vinkingos.
Odriozola is a promising young defender whose 2017-18 performance in La Liga earned him a spot in the World Cup squad. However, he did not participate in any of the four games played by La Roja. Additionally, last season Odriozola featured in 35 matches. In the previous season he played in 16 matches and then earning a firm spot in the starting lineup.
“Real Madrid and Real Sociedad have agreed to the transfer of the player Alvaro Odriozola, pending the medical examination, and the player remains linked to the club for the next six seasons,” a statement from Real Madrid read.
A Real Sociedad statement said: “Real Sociedad has reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Alvaro Odriozola to Real Madrid CF.
“We want to thank Alvaro Odriozola for the professionalism and commitment shown during his stay in our club from his youth years to the first team, at the same time as wishing him the best for his personal and professional future.”
Additionally, the signing is Julen Lopetegui’s second since joining Real Madrid in early June. However, the signing leaves very little room for Achraf Hakimi. In any case, the 19-year-old may land himself in Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. Hakimi was a favorite of previous manager Zinedine Zidane.
Odriozola will get his first chance to show Lopetegui in the International Champions Cup tour in the US. The preseason will start against Manchester United in Miami.
