DeAndre Jordan To Sign One Year Deal With Dallas Mavericks

DeAndre Jordan Opts Out Of Contact With Clippers

Three years later, DeAndre Jordan is finally going to play for the Dallas Mavericks. It’s safe to assume this time that a teammate won’t kidnap him and force him to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers. Jordan is reported to have taken a little bit less than his player option in this deal, but him not forcing the Mavs to give up any assets to get him was the right move.

What Do The Mavericks And Jordan Do Next?

The Mavericks are going to have an exciting team next season. With Dennis Smith and Luka Doncic in the backcourt along with Jordan at Cente, this team will be a lot of fun. Dirk Nowitzki and Harrison Barnes will fill out the rest of the starting lineup. This team could maybe hang around in the playoff hunt.

This being a short-term deal keeps both sides able to part ways next summer if things don’t work. This move might not make the most sense at the moment since they’re currently not a playoff team. The mutual interest has been there for a while.

Both sides were very interested in a deal a few years ago. It isn’t necessarily a great fit, but a one year deal doesn’t hurt either side. If Jordan likes how this season goes, he could stay on board for a couple more years. He has the potential to fit in very well this young core.

Jordan probably won’t ever get a max deal, or even a near max, again in his NBA career. However, he can change the Mavericks thinking if he puts together an all-star caliber season. If he doesn’t, he can then possibly take less to go to a contender to try to win a championship.
