The Warriors Sign Steve Kerr To A Contract Extension

This was a no-brainer for the Golden State Warriors. They’ve had so much success under Steve Kerr that this was a very easy move. They will allow him to stay in Golden State for almost as long as he’d like. So the Warriors giving him an extension at this time is well deserved.

Coaching Career

Steve Kerr’s coaching record throughout his first four years is spectacular. What he’s done with Golden State is very good and not many coaches could lead them to this much success. Yes, the Warriors are loaded with talent and don’t need the best coaching, but winning three titles in your first four seasons is a very impressive feat. I don’t care how much talent his team has, to be able to win three titles in four years, that takes a special coach.

Steve Kerr has a coaching record of 265-63 throughout his four regular seasons. It is worth noting though that Luke Walton led the team to a 39-4 start during the 2015-16 season when Kerr was recovering from back surgery. That is over an 80% winning percentage. Compare that to Gregg Popovich, who has a 69% winning percentage during his regular season. Pop has coached for way longer so it’ll be harder for Kerr to keep up his current pace but for him to be able to do it for even four years is fantastic.

Steve Kerr also has a coach of the year award from the 2015-16 season when the Warriors went 73-9. It was controversial as it was when he missed half the season but he probably still had a big impact on the team even when he didn’t coach on the sideline.

The Golden State Warriors have had a lot of success under Steve Kerr. So don’t expect him to leave anytime soon. If the Warriors continue to dominate the league, expect Steve Kerr to stay onboard.
