Lonzo Ball Has Torn Meniscus In His Left Knee

With free agency less than two days away, the Los Angeles Lakers are picking up momentum in pursuing LeBron James. James opted out of his contract on Friday, having Lakers fans thinking about the real possibility of signing him. On Friday evening, they received some unfortunate news. According to Yahoo’s Shams Charania, the Lakers young point guard, Lonzo Ball, who’s been in trade rumors this summer, has a torn meniscus in his left knee and should be ready for training camp this season.

The news about Ball’s meniscus tear isn’t good if the Lakers are really serious about trading him. However, if they choose to hang on to him, it wouldn’t be a bad thing. Yeah, Ball has to work on his shooting, but some let his shaky jump shot overshadow other things he brings to the table. Ball isn’t the bad defender some thought he would be at the NBA level. He’s 6′ 6″, has great length for a point guard, and plays the passing lanes very well. He’s also a very good rebounder.

As for Ball’s playmaking ability, he’s the perfect point guard LeBron James would love to play with. Like James, he also has great court vision at his disposal which would lessen the load off of star players. Those reasons could be why Oklahoma City Thunder star forward Paul George decides to come home to Los Angeles and be a Laker.

The Lakers also would benefit defensively, as they would have the personnel to guard multiple positions. If the Lakers do add George to their roster, the length they would possess is something that can’t be ignored. A Ball and George backcourt combination would have the potential to give teams fits, especially when they match up against the Golden State Warriors. Length has bothered Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson at times, and it has slowed them down a little.
